Cycling Heals - Vets Connect event - this outing will take place the second Tuesday of every month at Salem Lake in Winston-Salem moving forward. Please be prepared for weather conditions; the events are rain or shine.
Over the past few years, numerous wounded warriors / DVets have asked ONS to host cycling events. It’s not like a hundred of you have asked but if we can just get 30 -50 of you interested in cycling again that would be great. Cycling isn’t cheap and some of you haven’t been on a bike in years. Partnering with the National Cycling Center will help get you back on bikes. They have loaner bikes and helmets for the day of the events.
They also are collecting used bikes from cyclists to reworked and give to you. Our goal is to give wounded warriors / DVets 20 -30 quality bikes each year.
The Salem Lake Cycling Heals - Vets Connect outing isn’t just about cycling; the paths are great for walking - it’s about fellowship; you can jog if you like – but the day is about fellowship; come walk with your dog – make a new friend; feed the ducks, take the kids to the playground, fish from the pier – but, it’s fellowship. You can just hang out in the community center too if you like.
The day was originally planned for wounded warriors / DVets; but, we have expanded the event to include all veterans, the general public that wants to show support for our veterans and the cycling community; they really want to lend you a hand. They want to help put cycling back in your lives if you are interested. Again, rain or shine; snacks and beverages will be provided; come make new friends and get that heart rate up cycling, walking, chasing kids in the playground, etc. They have a great fishing pier too. Here is the Facebook page; check out the photo albums for pictures of Salem Lake; great venue!
