Cycling Heals

Cycling Heals - Vets Connect Monthly Outing - this outing is hosted the second Tuesday of every month at Salem Lake in Winston-Salem. Please be prepared for weather conditions; the outings are hosted rain or shine.

Over the past few years, numerous wounded warriors / DVets have asked ONS to host cycling events.  It’s not like hundreds of veterans have asked but if we can just get 30 -50 folks attending that would be great.  Cycling isn’t cheap and some veterans haven’t been on a bike in years. Partnering with the National Cycling Center really helps get all attendees back on bikes. They provide loaner bikes and helmets for the day of the event.

The National Cycling Center and ONS also accepts new and used bike donations which are reworked and given to wounded warriors / DVets to enjoy back in their respective communities. Our goal is to provide 20 - 30 quality bikes to wounded warriors / DVets each year.

The Salem Lake Cycling Heals - Vets Connect outing isn’t just about cycling; the riding path is great for walking as well; and, you can jog if you like. But, the day is about fellowship. Come walk your dog, feed the ducks, take the kids to the playground and/or fish from the pier. You can just hang out in the community center too if you like.

The day was originally planned for wounded warriors / DVets; but, we have expanded the event to include all veterans and the general public too – EVERYONE is welcomed to attend! Supporters of the monthly outing want to help put cycling back in the lives of wounded warriors / DVets. Again, the outings are hosted rain or shine; snacks and beverages are provided; come make new friends and get that heart rate up cycling, walking, chasing kids in the playground, etc. Here is the Facebook page; check out the photo albums for pictures of Salem Lake; great venue!
